      The 60-mm mortar, M224, can be fired in the conventional mode or handheld mode (Figure 3-1, page 3-2). The mortar is a muzzle-loaded, smooth-bore, high-angle-of-fire weapon.       The two service rounds specifically developed for the M224 mortar are the M720 and M888 HE rounds. The M720 round with multioption fuze (M734) has four settings— proximity, near-surface, impact, and 0.5-second delay. The M888 is a standard point-detonating fuze (M935) with both impact and 0.5-second delay settings.
