Look for a backlit icon on one of the function keys (F1 to F12). It looks like a sun or a flashlight. Press the backlight key while holding the Function (Fn) key. Check the keyboard. If you see light coming from beneath each key, the keyboard light is activated. Adjust the brightness (optional).

Most Surface models have a keyboard backlight control on the F1 key, while others (e.g., Surface Laptop Studio 2) have it on the F5 key. Surface laptops with backlit keyboards typically have 3-4 brightness levels. A single keypress of the backlight control moves the keyboard brightness up/down by one level.

To turn the backlit key on, first, please make sure that the Fn key is not lit. After that, press the key with the icon (half-sun) to enable the keyboard backlight. With each press, it moves through different levels of brightness, including off.

You can control the backlit on the Surface Laptop 5 keyboard by pressing the F1 media key (Next to the Esc key). 1st Press: Activate the backlight at level 1 (min). 2nd Press: Activate the backlight at level 2 (medium). 3rd Press: Activate the backlight at level 3 (max). 4th Press: Deactivate backlit.
