A resource teacher is an education professional who provides small-group instruction for students with special needs. Typically, resource teachers pull students from their regular classrooms to provide them with small-group instruction in a resource room.

A resource room is a designated room outside or separated from the classroom where an instructor delivers a special education program to a student with a disability—individually or in a small group. Teachers use resource rooms for many reasons including instruction, homework assistance, meetings, and alternative student social spaces.

The resource room should be taught by a special education teacher—not a paraprofessional, even one you're assured is trained to help kids with learning differences. Be sure to ask about who is doing resource duty.
