I remember being a bit surprised by how short the anime was considering the amount of content in the manga.

WEBMatt wasn't given a hair color in the original manga. So the fangirls decided his hair was red. When the anime was released, his hair was brown, and a colorized version of the manga followed that. One of the videogames had his hair as being powder blue. And on a trading card, his hair is straight-up green.

For scale Light has 9/10 intelligence and L has 8/10. Given he has less than 3 minutes of screen time and hardly any lines, it’s tough to say. 156K subscribers in the deathnote community.
