The mechanism of various links between steering gear box and the front wheel is called as steering linkages. It is used to transfer the side to side or front to rare movement of Pitman arm into the both sides of left to right turns of wheels. In this the cross shaft of the steering gear box at its upper end is connected by the pitman.

A steering linkage is the part of an automotive steering system that connects to the front wheels. The steering linkage which connects the steering gearbox to the front wheels consists of a number of rods.

The steering gearbox is fitted to the end of this column. Therefore, when the wheel is rotated, the cross shaft in the gearbox oscillates. The cross shaft is connected to the drop arm. This arm is linked by means of a drag link to the steering arms. Steering arms on both wheels are connected by the tie rods to the drag link.

The steering linkage system comprises several parts such as the steering wheel, the steering column, and the steering gears, connecting the steering mechanism to the front wheels of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the gearbox or transmission plays a pivotal role in controlling the power generated by the engine and transferring it to the wheels.

The component that connects the steering gearbox to the steering linkage is known as the steering coupling. This component plays a fundamental role in the smooth operation of the steering system, ensuring that the steering wheel’s movements are accurately transferred to the wheels of the vehicle.
