Feb 14, 2013 · A very common and useful tuning, and it's also great for slide. I have tuned my Guild 12-string to DADGAD and used it for some songs. It works pretty well, though it depends on how busy the song is. Lots of notes in rapid succession on a 12-string is a formula for musical chaos regardless of what tuning is used.

May 2, 2019 · DADGAD has a very pretty ringing tone to it because one tends to play consecutive notes on different strings. A lot of the Celtic style fingerpicking uses DADGAD. You might try drop-D tuning as a warm-up to DADGAD, just lower the 6th string from E to D and play songs in D like you normally would but you can hit the low D whenever you want.

May 1, 2024 · DADGAD and string choice. For six string guitars, I favor Elixir PB HD Light gauge strings. {.013 - .053}. Tuning to DADGAD with these gives you a stronger treble feel as they are already slightly boosted with their Medium gauge trebles to begin with. So no change in string gauge needed and a great result.
