Installing the Air Gap: Disassemble the Air Gap: Unthread the cap (1), the escutcheon (2), and the top mounting nut (3). From under the sink: Slide the body (4) up through the hole in the deck. From above the sink: Thread the top mounting nut (3) onto the body (4), leaving about 1/4" (6mm) of the threads above the sink.

There are a few different ways to create an air gap, but the most common method is to install an air gap device. The two most common air gap fittings are a tee fitting or a vacuum breaker. You can install a Tee fitting on the incoming water line.

The air gap is usually integrated into the dishwasher installation. On the surface, you see it as a tube that is placed a couple of inches above the sink. Beneath this tube under the sink, there are two branches. First branch adheres from the dishwasher to the air gap. The second branch goes down from the air gap into the designated drainage line.
