While we wait for upcoming Star Trek shows and movies, exciting things involving the franchise are happening in the animal world. It turns out there's a new species of frogs that were discovered, and they're reminiscent of a specific franchise that's available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription.

In the humid rainforests of northern and eastern Madagascar reside seven newly described frog species. They often hang out near fast, flowing rivers. These treefrogs' high-pitched, "futuristic" sounds may help male frogs attract females over the sound of nearby rushing water.

B. kirki, B. picardi, B. siskoi, B. janewayae, B. archeri, B. pikei, and B. burnhamae live in Madagascar's rainforests.

Scientists named them Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Burnham, and Pike after seven of the most iconic captans from Star Trek.
