Hundreds of Hurricane Milton evacuees are on their way to or already at hotels, shelters, and RV parks in metro Atlanta. Channel 2′s Audrey Washington spoke with evacuees at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Henry County on Tuesday.

Many people are headed toward the Atlanta area to get away from the storm. The Georgia Emergency Management Agency is encouraging evacuees to travel further north into Albany, Columbus, Macon and Atlanta areas to keep them away from the storm-ravaged areas of Valdosta and Augusta because of Hurricane Helene.

Channel 2′s Michael Seiden was in Henry County on Tuesday afternoon where he found heavy traffic in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75, many of the cars with Florida plates.

Most all of Florida’s Gulf Coast is under either a Tropical Storm Warning or a Hurricane Warning and parts of coastal Georgia are under a Tropical Storm Watch.

The Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) is hosting Milton evacuees at its site in Hampton. According to the AMS website, the speedway is offering dry camping free of charge in its Legends Premium Campground for RVs and Legends Tent Campground for pop-up campers and tents.

Hurricane and tropical storm watches are posted across much of Florida’s west coast as the Category 5 storm churns in the Gulf of Mexico.
