By late afternoon and evening, models show freezing rain developing for areas around the Mission Valley and south. Under these conditions roads may quickly freeze over leading to very difficult travel for tonight into Saturday morning.

Forecasters say power cuts are likely and that vehicles could become stranded on roads as wintry conditions continue. Trains and flights could also be delayed or cancelled and rural communities could be cut off,

The first snowfall of the year may already be on its way but all eyes are on a major winter storm coming this weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, snow is likely Thursday night into Friday morning,

It’s the type of winter weather we see more frequently and don’t really have a tough time identifying. Snowflakes are able to reach the ground – and not turn into freezing rain or sleet – when the temperature is at or below 32 degrees from the cloud base to the ground.
