Smoke and question marks still hang over the devastated Gaza Strip one year after Hamas' Oct. 7 attack touched off a regional firestorm.

As the Middle East marks a year since the deadly Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas, Israel is locked in a multi-front war with no clear end, sending troops back to northern Gaza and keeping up intense aerial attacks and a limited ground maneuver in Lebanon.

Israel’s military carried out airstrikes on two fronts Monday, targeting Hamas positions across the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon as the country marked one year since a Hamas attack on southern Israel sparked a war that now threatens to engulf the entire region.
