A brush fire that began on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin has spread to about 80 acres, including into Meriden, authorities said, and left one firefighter dead.

Officials said Thursday three helicopters are expected to be taking water from Silver Lake and dumping water onto the flames.

Officials estimate the Berlin brush fire is between 80 and 100 acres in size Thursday as efforts are actively underway to tackle hot spots. There are three helicopters in the air Thursday, actively circling the area to pick up water from Silver Lake and drop it on the “Hawthorne Fire.
