As per the National Hurricane Center’s 8 am Monday update, Tropical Storm Oscar is 5 miles west of Guantanamo Cuba and 70 miles west of the Eastern Tip of Cuba, with maximum sustained wind of 45 mph. It’s moving at 2 mph to the west.

As of the NHC’s 5 a.m. advisory, the center of what is now Tropical Storm Oscar was located about 5 miles east of Guantanamo, Cuba and 60 miles west of the eastern trip of the island nation moving west at 2 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. Tropical-storm-force winds extend out up to 45 miles from the center.

Cubans in the eastern provinces of Holguín and Guantánamo braced for a direct hit by Hurricane Oscar on Sunday afternoon. As the Category 1 hurricane made landfall near Baracoa, a coastal in city in Guantánamo province, around 5:50 p.m., most of the country still had no power.
