Severe weather outbreak possible overnight in Alabama; 2 tornado watches now in effect
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center was maintaining a Level 4 out of 5 (moderate) risk for severe weather for part of west Alabama overnight. A larger area in west Alabama has a Level 3 (enhanced risk), and nearly all of the rest of the state had a Level 2 (slight) risk. (See the severe weather outlook at the top of this post.)
Holiday travelers heading home this weekend could face severe weather in parts of the country, including an outbreak ... nighttime tornadoes, the weather service in Birmingham, Alabama, warned.
Athens was under a severe thunderstorm warning Dec. 28 when a brief tornado struck downtown, causing heavy damage.
