The Met Office has issued an Amber Severe Weather Warning for Northern Ireland as Storm Ashley intensifies. The warning is currently in place for Sunday, October 20, and Monday, October 21. A yellow weather warning remains in place as Storm Ashley hit Northern Ireland overnight. The first named storm of the season is expected to bring winds of up to 80mph in parts of the UK. Temporary flood defences have been erected along parts of the River Lagan in Belfast in anticipation of the storm.

The yellow warning applies to all counties from 3am to midnight, however the amber warning applies from 1pm today until 8pm and is for Counties Antrim, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone. Winds are expected to reach 60-70mph in this period. The Met Office warns to expect:
