Spirit AeroSystems had been scrambling to cut costs after more than 32,000 Boeing machinists walked off the job Sept. 13.

The plane manufacturer said the employees affected by the furloughs were working on Boeing’s 767 and 777 programs. The furlough will last for three weeks.

Around 700 Spirit AeroSystems employees are being furloughed as a result of the ongoing strike by Boeing machinists that began last month, the company announced Friday.

Spirit AeroSystems posted deeper quarterly losses on Wednesday and said it was burning through dwindling cash reserves, as a strike by Boeing U.S. factory workers hammered the finances of its biggest supplier.

Boeing reported a massive third-quarter loss, partly due to billions in charges from its airline programs as well as the current strike.

Boeing's Q3 2024 revenue down slightly to $17.8 billion, a 1% decrease year-over-year. The net loss widened significantly due to operational challenges and pre-tax charges. Boeing's backlog remains robust at $511 billion.
