Joel Dahmen was penalized four shots Thursday when he discovered an extra 4-iron in his golf bag at the Shriners Children's Open, a big blow for a player who is on the bubble trying to keep his PGA Tour card.

During the first round of the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, fan-favorite Joel Dahmen was assessed a four-stroke penalty for having 15 clubs in his bag. Dahmen made par on his opening two holes, but those scores were changed to double-bogey 6s after the blunder.

Dahmen tied for seventh place at the Shriners Children’s Open last year. This year, after the start where he was four over after two holes, he made two more bogeys and one birdie to turn at five-over 40 and was in last place in the 132-man field.
