China's foreign ministry on Monday parried questions on a possible meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia this week.

The Prime Minister said the visit will build on the annual India-Russia Summit held in Moscow in July and reinforce the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday departed for his two-day visit to Russia to attend the 16th Brics Summit in the city of Kazan. Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During the summit, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from BRICS member nations and other invited leaders.
