Hi Matt, July is a pretty busy month as the floodwaters have arrived but I would suggest a) you can base yourself in Maun and stay at a Backpackers’s and do your activities from there or b) depending on your budget ( I know you don’t want to spend too much!) but if you could look at flying/ driving into a camp from Maun possibly an overland trip with a local operator? We booked through Natural World Safaris (NWS). Letaka Safaris ran the actual safari in Botswana. Look at their web sites for info and ideas. NWS has a fantastic website. Ours was a camping safari, pit toilet and bucket showers. But gourmet meals and unbelievable access to the wildlife. We were always viewing wildlife. If your goal is seeing the animals of Botswana, a camping safari is the best option. For me it was very exhausting but I would do it again in a heartbeat!
