We will be staying in Legoland Billund (without hire car) and would like to visit Jelling with our children. Has anybody taken public transport to visit here and did you find it straight forward? I think taxi would cost too much. Or are there day trips you can book on with coaches included? Thank you in advance!

Hi. We traveled by train from Copenhagen to Jelling, it was quite straightforward. If you're an English speaker, a great many people speak that language in Denmark, so you will have no trouble getting help. The train station in Jelling is within easy walking distance from the mounds. Jelling stones and mounds are very interesting, and the little church there is pretty. There is a viking museum very close by, and it is excellent, with a cafe and displays suitable for children. Not sure about day trips, check with your hotel.
Did you go there from Copenhagen? I mapped it's done it looks to be around 3 hours away. Did you hire a tour guide or go on your own? Thanks for the info!!

Hi Ron, no did not go from Copenhagen, but from a place in the southern Jylland. It takes about three hours and 45 min to drive from Copenhagen to Jelling. No I did not hire a guide but went there on my own. At the museum there is a lot and some good guide books/leaflets that can inform you about the place and the stones. Please go see the museum, really an awesome place. Enjoy!!
